“As you go, make disciples of all nations.” (Matthew 28:30) Jesus spoke these words for each one of his followers, including you and me. If we take Him seriously, we want to obey. The first step is often the most difficult. To help you take that first step, we offer the following resources, links, and suggestions for you to prayerfully consider: Making disciples is about relationship. Getting to know your neighbor, your world, and the history of the Christian movement is a great place to begin. · Read missionary biographies – in print or online. A search of “Great Missionary Biographies” at Amazon.com will yield information on the biographies of David Brainerd, Adoniram Judson, Lottie Moon, Don Richardson, C. T. Studd, William Carey, Jonathan Goforth, and many other missionary statesmen and trailblazers. · Acquaint yourself with the history, customs, and interests of another culture by hosting an international student in your home, or befriending someone from another culture. · Carefully study Bible texts and accounts that address or exemplify our calling to be witnesses & disciple makers (e.g.: Matthew 28:18–20, Acts 1:6–8; John 20:19–21, the conversion, life, and ministry of the Apostle Paul, etc.). · Develop a friendship, partnership and/or dialogue with a current or retired foreign missionary. · Sign up to receive newsletters, prayer letters, or other publications from AMG & other missions organizations. · Subscribe to missions periodicals such as Evangelical Missions Quarterly: www.emqonline.com, or MissionMaker, www.missionmakermagazine.com. Discipleship is about our own relationship with God. Prayer – for oneself and for those around us – enriches that relationship by drawing our attention to what our Lord values. · Pray regularly and fervently about God’s plans for your life! · Get to know a fellow believer doing mission work (local, overseas, sent or indigenous). Maintain contact with him or her so you can pray regularly and fervently for them. · Many missions organizations publish monthly prayer lists. Visit your own church, denomination, or favorite mission’s website, or AMG International's Praise & Prayer calendar, for ways to pray for missionaries and missionary movements. · The Perspectives text recommended in the resources list has several articles on the role and place of prayer in the worldwide Christian movement. Discipleship is about stewardship of God has put within our reach. It is all HIS, and not ours.
